Commercial 1 2 3 4 5 6 MapInfo Corp. Troy, NY Completion: October 2002 Size: 1,100 square feet Architect: Woodward Connor Gillies & Seleman, Albany, NY Data center, telecommunications: Shen Milsom & Wilke, New York City MapInfo is a software company that uses location-based analytics to help various industries understand their customers and markets. We designed their data center for 84 racks, a network operations center, an information products lab, and a Web operations area--enough space to meet the company's data needs for the next five years and still allow plenty of room for expansion. To answer concerns about proper air temperature and distribution, Shen Milsom & Wilke recommended five computer room air conditioners (CRACs) that cycle once a week. If one unit fails, the system automatically switches to keep four running. A permanent rack tie cable infrastructure minimizes the amount of ad hoc cabling between servers and network switches. The network operations center, information products lab, Web operations area, and uninterruptible power supply are separated from the main space with security screens. The center is designed to meet Tier 3 standards. |
