Princeton University Department of Public Safety Communications Center

Completion: September 2005

Architect: Clark Caton Hintz Architects, Trenton, NJ
Building security, telecommunications: Shen Milsom & Wilke, New York City

After conducting an exhaustive technology review, Shen Milsom & Wilke designed the technology for a new Communications Center to support the Princeton University Department of Public Safety. This includes a 911 emergency call center; dispatching operations for the campus police department, maintenance, and campus fire systems; control of campus access locations and radio communications; wants, warrants, and criminal background check activities; and monitoring and control of campus wide closed-circuit television surveillance.

A campus GPS and mapping system within the center can locate an officer's movements, location, and the exact location. Calls are automatically dispatched to the nearest free officer to that location. The systems maintain a record of activity for each and every location based on calls or special information and prompt the dispatcher with special instructions associated with the call.

All of this can displayed on a 42-inch screen within the Communications Center that dispatchers can reference.
