Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre

Completion: March 2004
Size: 20,000 square feet

Architect: Architectural Services Department, Hong Kong
Multimedia, show control: Shen Milsom & Wilke, Hong Kong
Interiors, contractor: Kingsmen, Hong Kong
Exhibition design: MET Studio Design Ltd., London

Geared to school children, the InfoCentre combines the words of those whose lives have been touched by drug abuse with hard medical facts. Shen Milsom & Wilke designed the multimedia and show control throughout the centre, including an interactive wall that uses eight MP3 players and loudspeakers controlled via a touch-panel visitor interface. Two interactive games simulate the affects of drugs on an individual's reflexes. We worked with the game designers, provided the hardware specifications, and served as a liasion for the programmers to complete the systems.

The upper level of the Centre includes the Info Café, where visitors use computer terminals to browse the Internet for drug information. They can also play educational games installed on the PCs. Because young people often pound keyboards during game play, we specified a rugged exhibition keyboard and track ball.
