Museum of Islamic Art
Doha, Qatar

Architect: I.M. Pei, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects, NYC
Multimedia: Shen Milsom & Wilke, NYC
Size: 382,000 square feet
Completion: December 2008

The Museum of Islamic Art is a building of extraordinary power and presence that houses the world’s largest collection of Islamic art.

Shen Milsom & Wilke’s multimedia design was used to create a 200-seat auditorium that provides a space for public lectures, electronic cinema screening, ceremonial events, video teleconferencing and distance learning. The technical systems are engineered for flexibility so that the space may be tailored to various events.

Image projection includes single and dual images, video cameras, and a 5.1 surround sound capability. Distance learning and teleconferencing, providing real-time links to other institutions, are key components of this space. Fully automatic, remote cameras and multiple microphones capture sound and images for transmission. Control systems are designed for ease of use.
