| Few will
argue that renovation is often far more difficult, and certainly
as challenging as new construction. The compromises, especially
in landmark structures such as New York's Grand Central Station,
the classic Rookery Building in Chicago and the Ed Sullivan
Theater, require exceptionally creative solutions on the part
of the architect and team of specialty consultants. SM&W is
proud to have provided technical services on some of the country's
most challenging renovation projects.
Landmark preservation status restricts obvious
solutions in dealing with the harsh acoustics of certain grand spaces.
On numerous occasions, our audio engineering specialists have saved
the day by designing innovative systems that perform optimally despite
less than ideal acoustic reality. Specific examples can be found
in some of SM&W's theater, courthouse, assembly hall, and rail
terminal projects.
